Though prescribing Marijuna as drug is prohibited under the Federal laws in America, rulings from the Court has now come up permitting prescription of marijuana therapy in a limited number of specifed cases. Such marijuana seeds should only come from the Federal National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA). During 1978-86 this organization distributed seeds for six research programs in states. Presently the seeds are being provided for the California Medical Research Program. 

It is not however legally permissible for a State to authorize any doctor to try medical weed seeds without Federal approval. The Federal approval comes from NIDA and the funding is channeled through the National Institutes of Health (NIH). However the state legislatures have the authority to reschedule use of these seeds for medical purposes under the approved laws of the state. The peculiarity is that this will not protect the doctors using or prescribing it to face proceedings and trial under the Federal Laws. 

Cannabidiol is a component in the cannabis seeds that are not available in the artificial Marinol. Cannabidiol has direct impact and medical values as anti-convulsion drugs. It also counteracts the anxieties caused by the THC.  Therefore, many people are coming up with demands to modify the Federal Laws making the use of cannabis seeds whether marijuana or others, legal. They feel that like the use of alcohol and other harmful elements for medicinal purpose when after chemical treatment they loose their original harmful character and turn out to be beneficial should be encouraged.
