Nail Fungus- Its Affects!
05/04/2008
Nail fungus is usually made up of very minute organisms which infect our toenails and fingernails. The nails in our toes and fingers are regarded as a very good barrier. This barrier prevents the superficial infections to pass into our body through the nail. If by chance an infection invades through it into our body, then the same barrier would work against us and makes it difficult for its treatment.
According to a recent study, about 35 millions of people are affected by this fungus in the US. The fungus usually lives within the nail. The nail provides a perfect place for the fungus. The fungus generally likes damp and dark places which suits them to find a place underneath the nail. That’s the reason; the nail fungus is hard to stop.
The possibility of getting affected by the fungus at the toenails is much more than getting affected by the same at the fingernails. It is because the toenails are often covered with shoes and socks keeping the toenails warm, dark and moist. The toe nail fungus sometimes causes to make the sides of the nails irritated and red. Firstly, the edges of the nails get affected by the fungus. Due to this, one feels itchiness, discomfort and pain around their nails. At few times, bleeding from the nails also occurs. Due to the affect of the fungus, the toenails gets discolored and sometimes white spots can be seen. The nails also thicken abruptly and tiny punched holes are also formed there. More or less the same effects can also be seen by the fingernail fungus affecting our fingers.
